What is waxed canvas?
Waxed canvas is a cotton canvas fabric that has been impregnated with a paraffin based wax. The technique of waxing canvas has been around since the 19th century. Sailors in England and Scotland used the technique for waterproofing. It was also widely used by the British Armed Forces during WWII resulting in Britain having the only waterproof gear.
How should I care for my waxed canvas bag?
Waxed canvas should not be placed in a washer or dryer. For best results, use a mild soap and cold water to treat spots. Use a cloth or sponge to massage soap into the spotted area. Rinse with cold water and let dry.
Over time your waxed canvas bag may need to be re-waxed. Martexin sells an original wax can for touch ups or re-applications. Application is done by simply warming up the wax with a hairdryer or in the sunshine and rubbing into the canvas. Then letting it cool and dry.
What is vegetable tanned leather?
All leather goes through a tanning process to convert the animal hide to leather. Most leather comes from chrome tanning because it is cheaper and faster. However, it uses chemicals in the tanning process that impact the environment. Vegetable tanned leather, on the other hand, uses natural tannins found in plants, bark, branches, etc. for tanning. This process is more expensive and time consuming. However, it has less of an effect on the environment. English Bridle Leather also uses a vegetable tanning processing, making it eco-friendly as well.
Vegetable tanned leather will also develop a patina of dark caramel color through use and exposure to the sun. Making each piece beautiful and unique to the owner.
Can I refund or exchange my bag?
In the event that you are not satisfied with your purchase, I am happy to refund or exchange the item. The item must be unused and in sellable condition with the original tags and packaging. The item must be postmarked for return 5 days after it arrives or 5 days from the date of purchase if bought in person. Please send me a quick email that you are planning to return the product. That way I can be on the lookout for the return and get you your refund in a timely manner.
For items being refunded, regrettably I can only refund the cost of the item and not the shipping costs. Refunds will be issued once I receive the item.
For items you want exchanged/refunded, you are responsible for the shipping costs to send it back and you are responsible for the shipping costs for it to be sent back to you. When an item is being returned, I am not responsible for returned items lost in transit. Please get shipping insurance.
Custom order and sale items are not returnable.
How long will it take for my order to arrive?
Please allow up to 2 weeks for your order to be processed. All listings state in stock. However, each item is handmade and mostly made to order. If an item is already made, it will ship out sooner. If you have a question about processing time, please feel free to send me an e-mail and I can give you a specific estimate.
I need a repair to my product. What should I do?
All products are handmade. So it's inevitable that from time to time something breaks or rips. Send me a picture of the product and a description of what happened. We will decide together how best to fix it. Often times I will have you send me the product if you're not local. I'll repair it and send it back to you. It's just that easy!
Do you do custom work?
I am happy to make changes to the color combinations of any of the bags. Please see the "custom work" tab for current Pendleton® patterns and fabric/leather choices. However, each bag is thoughtfully designed with attention to details and features. I take my time, testing many ideas before arriving at the final design. Therefore, I do not offer custom changes to my designs. If you don't see a style you like, keep checking back. I'm always adding new styles and sizes based upon custom feedback. And feel free to send me an email with a product you'd like to see in the collection!
